We are continuing to take the live performance of “Psoriasis; The Skin I’m In” to conferences and events around the UK and Europe. We have had such a warm reception from audiences of health care professionals and people with psoriasis, and have had dermatologists reporting a change in the way they are practising as a result of what they have learnt from this piece. We were really pleased to perform at the RCGP conference in Liverpool in October where we received a standing ovation.
We have been taking the live performances of The Skin I’m In to conferences and meetings around the UK and Europe and are really pleased with the impact it is having. We have performed to nurses, GPs, dermatologists, people with psoriasis and the general public, for British Association of Dermatologists, Psoriasis Association, Mimms Live and Celgene, in London, Brighton, Liverpool, Stockholm and Windsor. More dates to come.
A unique film/storytelling project in collaboration with Dr Sandy McBride (consultant dermatologist at the Royal Free London Hospital). We launched the film on you tube to coincide with National Psoriasis Week in the UK. It is designed to educate and bring awareness.
I interviewed 20 people with Psoriasis and from the transcripts Danny Scheinmann and I created a spoken word piece which we perform with music from Neyire Ashworth and Simon Edwards. The film is directed by Simon Baker. The stories are true, and many of the words are verbatim.
So excited to be filming our story about Psoriasis “The Skin I’m In”. Rising to the challenge of translating the live storytelling piece onto film, with a fantastic creative team. Its a real pleasure to work with director Simon Baker, producer Fenella Mcguire, and musicians Neyire Ashworth and Simon Edwards and of course the wonderful Danny Scheinmann.
I have been working with Nina Miranda on vocals and Alex Kingsbury on guitar to create an audio recording of this powerful story – adapted from Clarissa Pinkola Estes “Women Who Run with the Wolves”. This is the version so far…..
We had a great night at Paper Dress Vintage. I told a traditional nordic story – Seal Woman -adapted from the book “Women Who Run with the Wolves”, and Nina Miranda (Smoke City/ Zeep) and I sang two songs which we wrote together, accompanied on guitar by Alex Kingsbury. The first one was inspired by some beautiful footage of icebergs that we saw in the documentary “Village at the end of the World” directed by Sarah Gavron and David Katznelson. The second song was inspired by a poem that I wrote about day dreaming on train journeys.
